💰 Salary Cap Stress Tester — Generic

A generic salary-cap simulator. Every figure on this page is typed in by you.

Plainly: this page includes no real team names with real figures and no real contract data anywhere. The Expert Sports has no licensed salary or contract feed, so no real contract database is included — inventing one would be fabrication, and this site does not ship invented figures. The pre-filled numbers are a worked example in round, obviously-placeholder numbers, labelled as an example; replace them with your own. All money is in whatever unit you choose (the example uses millions); keep one unit throughout.
Base formulas: Cap space = cap ceiling − payroll. Tax overage = max(0, payroll − tax line). Total cost = payroll + luxury tax.
Luxury tax (generic bracket math, exactly as computed): the overage is charged in blocks of 5 units at rising per-unit rates: block 1 (first 5 over) ×1.50, block 2 ×1.75, block 3 ×2.50, block 4 ×3.25, and each further 5-unit block adds +0.50 to the rate (block 5 ×3.75, block 6 ×4.25, …). Tax = Σ (amount in block × its rate). Repeat-offender option (generic, user-selected): choosing it adds +1.00 to every block rate — a generic way to model harsher repeat-payer systems; it names no real league rule.
Dead money (cutting a contract): Dead money total = annual salary × years remaining × guaranteed %. You choose how it is charged: all in Year 1, or spread evenly over the remaining years. In each year, net saving vs keeping the player = annual salary − that year's dead-money charge; after the charge years end, the saving is the full salary. Year-1 payroll after the cut = payroll − salary + Year-1 dead charge, and space/tax are recomputed on it.
Cap spike: a user-entered percentage jump multiplies the ceiling (and, if you tick it, the tax line too) from Year 1 on: new ceiling = ceiling × (1 + %/100).

Your figures (example values — replace them)

Worked example check (round placeholder numbers, labelled as an example): ceiling 100, payroll 120, tax line 110 → overage 10 → tax = 5 × 1.50 + 5 × 1.75 = 7.50 + 8.75 = 16.25, cap space = −20 (20 over the ceiling). If your screen shows exactly that with the example values, the bracket math is working.

Base result

Scenario A — cap spike

Scenario B — cut a contract (dead money)

Contract labels are your own text (the example uses “Player A”); no real player or team contract is stored in, or loaded by, this page — every contract figure here was typed in above.

About the Salary Cap Stress Tester

The Salary Cap Stress Tester is a generic cap simulator that runs entirely on figures you type in: your ceiling, your payroll, your tax line, your contracts. Model a dead-money cut, a cap spike, or a luxury-tax bill and watch the year-by-year consequences recompute from formulas printed in full on the page.

It is generic on purpose, and the page says why plainly: The Expert Sports has no licensed salary or contract feed, so no real contract database exists here — inventing one would be fabrication, and this site does not ship invented figures. There are no real team names with real figures anywhere on the page. The pre-filled numbers are a worked example in round, obviously-placeholder figures, labelled as an example; replace them with your own, in whatever unit you choose, kept consistent throughout.

The math is exactly as printed: cap space = cap ceiling − payroll; tax overage = max(0, payroll − tax line); total cost = payroll + luxury tax. The generic luxury tax charges the overage in blocks of 5 units at rising per-unit rates (×1.50, ×1.75, ×2.50, ×3.25, then +0.50 per further block), with an optional repeat-offender toggle adding +1.00 to every rate. Dead money on a cut = annual salary × years remaining × guaranteed %, charged all in Year 1 or spread evenly, with the net saving recomputed each year. A cap spike multiplies the ceiling (and optionally the tax line) by your entered percentage from Year 1 on. Use it to stress-test a roster-building idea — not to look up a real team's books, which this page deliberately does not contain.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Salary Cap Stress Tester use real contracts?

No. Every figure is typed in by you. The Expert Sports has no licensed salary or contract feed, so the page contains no real team names with real figures and no contract database; the pre-filled numbers are a labelled worked example in round placeholder figures.

How is the luxury tax calculated?

Generically: the overage above your tax line is charged in blocks of 5 units at rising per-unit rates — block 1 ×1.50, block 2 ×1.75, block 3 ×2.50, block 4 ×3.25, each further block +0.50 — and an optional repeat-offender toggle adds +1.00 to every rate. Total cost = payroll + luxury tax.
